There’s more to swimming pool construction than digging a large hole, coating it, and filling it with water. Go into your project knowing what to expect so that you can make the most of it and enjoy the end result even more. Even with these delays and inconveniences, having an inground swimming pool is one of the best experiences you can have.
Expect A Mess
Don’t worry, it’s not permanent. But your yard, as well as access to it, is going to look chaotic for a while. From test holes to excavated ground, let’s look at what is going to happen and what to expect during construction.
Holes. If you live in a rocky area, chances are test holes will be dug to get a sense of whether or not the pool is going to require blasting or leveling. These holes give pool professionals a better idea of the placement of your pool as well as any walls or fill they will need.
Goodbye, grass! The grass around where your final pool will be, near access roads and about a 20×20 area where excavated materials will be piled is going to be gone. The benefit is a break from mowing. You’ll have to wait for reseeded areas to grow back in after construction is complete.
King of the hill. That 20×20 area mentioned above is where excavated materials will be dumped. Your swimming pool construction experts will haul these materials but you’ll have a pile for a while during the construction process.
Expect Detours During Swimming Pool Construction
Life will look a little different while you’re pool is being built. Here are some things to prepare for that you may not have thought of.
Alternate parking. If your driveway ends at a gate to your yard it’s going to be a high traffic area and may also be used to park equipment during construction. You’ll want a plan for parking so that you can get in and out without a problem. Talk to neighbors, consider carpooling — a swim in your new pool is more than enough incentive!
Don’t Forget Fido. During construction your yard may be off limits for a time. Make sure to scout out places to take your four-legged friends if your usual routine is to just open the back door.
Unexpected Challenges
In a perfect world, your construction would be a seamless, quick process. In the real world, you’re likely to run into challenges. Knowing what to expect makes these easier to navigate.
Ground water. Groundwater can be a problem during swimming pool construction but it is rarely an expensive one. In the event your yard has groundwater swimming pool construction will usually start with the deep end so that the water flows there and can easily be removed. Luckily, there is a resource that shows both bedrock and groundwater.
Red tape. Depending on where you live, the permitting process can slow you down quite a bit depending on how many resources your municipality can devote to the paperwork. To speed things up be sure to adhere to all deadlines and follow all directions. This will make things go much more smoothly.
